GotGame, I know you raise bantamn modern games and some very fine ones too from the pictures I saw. I have a quad of red pyle standard modern games and am trying to find another pair, trio or whatever in another color. Anybody got any ideas where I might check. Thanks

Ashley unfortunately the temperment is anyones guess. I have seen nice ones and I have seen mean ones. Handling a lot will go a long way in tameing. If you only have 5 hens I would either get rid of one roo or divide them up into two pens. Thats not enough for two roos together, the number not really being as big a problem as the two roos together. Usually it just won't work out, there will be a lot of discontent in the flock as one will always be second and will not like it. And just think if you divide them up you will need to get more hens so each will have an even number! (Do I hear an amen from the enabler crew!)

Today was a big day in the garden, planting, running the weed wacker, filling unplanted beds with compost and chicken manure compost. Had helpers today and that made the job go much quicker....We are bushed!!

I'm posting photos now that the garden looks so clean both here and some others in the hobby section under the sqyare foot garden threads.

This is thru the gate looking down the first row of beds. Gracie has her summer hair cut.

Moving down the last path, and looking SW across the second row of beds to the back of the garden.

From the same spot looking NW across the second row of beds and the fruit trees along the outside fence.

From the back of the garden area looking north at the second path. The big bed on the left was planted today with 4 rows of corn and hills of cantaloup and watermelon, cucumbers on the middle panel and a hill of patty pan squash. Blackberries are planted on the panels. The soaker hoses will be laid in under a hay mulch before the seeds sprout

From the back of the garden looking north at the first path. The portable wash tub has a hose drain and when I wash veggies in the garden, I drain the wash water into a bed. The green bags are filled with chicken manure and crushed leaves from the hen house.

Robin - I don't know about the paste - I think that is for horses and I don't know how it would be used for chickens. As an alternative to Ivomec, for worming and/or treating for mites/lice, you can also use the pour-on ivermectin for cattle - it is less expensive than Ivomec. When I was helping my folks treat their birds, I went to a veterinarian and she asked me how many chickens we were treating and asked if they were Large Fowl or Bantams. She then measured out two doses for each bird - 4-5 drops applied to the skin (under the wing was the easiest place to find skin on those hens not showing wear from the rooster). For bantams, the dosage is 2 drops on the skin. Reapply in two weeks as needed. You can find the Ivermectin at Atwoods or TSC, I don't have an Orsheln's nearby, but they probably have it too.

That is a marvelous garden!
I put in 4 bell pepper plants today, that is all the vegtables I've got done so far, way behind this year. I planted alot of flowers. Even my vegtable garden has flowers in it. Flowers don't seem like work to me. Too bad I can't eat most of them.
