Olandsk Dwarf Chickens

Simply adorable! I love the photo of the two month old roo. Do they think he is there momma?
What do you use in the bottom of your brooder? It look very clean.
Thanks for posting the photos.

Hello! Just wanted to share a photo of my little Dwarf Rooster with my Swedish Flower Hen Rooster! He looks like a mini me!! (Sorry quality isn't my normal.)

That's cute, I didn't even think to house them LF, maybe I can get down to one coop for the winter.

OK, here goes.

First, Lisbet with the first of her 3 chicks to hatch:

Here are the first 2 to hatch - comparing notes:

Here are some of the 2 week olds in the brooder - you can see that they were very sleepy during the photo session!

I have a 2 month old black mottled japanese bantam cockerel in with the babies - he was getting picked on my his group, so I put him in with the babies. They love him and spend lots of time snuggling with him!

I love seeing the colors show up in their feathers. Usually the brown and black show up first, as below, with the white to follow.

They are like little gemstones - watching the colors develop day by day is just amazing.

Here is a picture of the chick that was pure white with a few light brown spots when he hatched - now about 4 weeks old. None of my subsequent hatches have had that coloring - it will be interesting to see how the next few groups (under the broodies) hatch out.

I just collected the last few eggs to make up a dozen tonight - I don't plan to set these, so if anyone is interested in buying some eggs please pm me!

All these pictures of sleepy babies is making me sleepy - goodnight BYC!

Those are adorable. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Thanks! Yes, I think the babies think the little roo is their mother. He seems to enjoy them as much as they enjoy him.

I use crushed corn cobs for the brooders - I know that there are various companies that make similar products - I buy one called Corncob Bedding (pretty creative naming, eh?). It is really easy to keep clean - I just pick out feces every day, and replace with new bedding weekly.

Looking forward to seeing others' pics!

Funny, I didn't even think about where they were when I took the pictures. Interesting, they have all the space they could hope for and they go into the goat barnyard.
Do you let them free range all the time? I always get a little nervous about letting mine out. Do they fly well? Sorry so many questions, mine are still young.

No, we let them out when we are doing evening chores, I get nervous, too. I have another pair, plus some chicks now so I'm getting braver. I think we are moving their coop to behind the house, then we'll let them free range more. I'm interested in seeing how well they learn to fly, they do try. I'm sure we'll all be asking each other questions, we're all learning about the breed together.
