old age

How can you telll if your hens are too old to lay any more. We got some hens back in November and the were layng fine. But in Apr one of them stopped laying and now a second hen has stopped laying.
Is there a way for me to tell if they are too old to lay any more???

Where did you get them and do you have any idea how old they are? Did they stop completely or just taper off?

Chickens lay eggs for a lifetime, they just lay fewer eggs as they get older. Most chickens are affected by the summer heat... the hotter it gets, the fewer (and sometimes smaller) eggs they lay.

That' what I thought-I also read they with stop when they are moulting-usually in the summer.
