I have a 6 year old blind hen i know alot of people who would've culled her by now but she is still useful She takes care of chicks when ther are to big to stay in our house and to small to run with the bigger chickens she is just like a broody she makes the sounds she keeps the warm like broodys do here is Ms Queen that was taken back when we first got her she hasen't changed one bit

Yep she is such a sweet little girl. she never went broody once the entire time we had her but when we put the chicks in with her she starting taking care of them, would call them to eat if she found something, and at night she would let them sleep under her wings.

I have a BO who's 2 1/2 now and never went broody. But we call her Auntie Ginger because when my other BO went broody 6 months ago, I tucked baby chicks under her to raise. Which she did. But after a few weeks, we noticed the babies hanging out w/ Auntie Ginger. I thought they were just standing around together. But she was helping co-parent them and show them where food was.

I was offering meal worms one afternoon and I kept giving one to Auntie Ginger who would drop it and the other hens would take it. I felt bad that she wasn't getting any so I scooped her up and put her inside the hen house and handed her one. She dropped it and made the chuck chuck chuck sound like come here, I've found food.

I thought I had lost my mind so I called my husband out and showed him and he just about fell over. I should have video taped it. I never thought a hen would do that until they had gone through the whole broody cycle. But I guess sometimes they never good broody but still want to be mamas.
