Old chickens having problem with new feeder.

Previously I was filling a trough with layer in the coop yard, letting the 1 year olds out they would eat a little and head out. Meanwhile, id be in the coop with the pullets and filling another trough of grower. They would usually devour it. Then id let them out.

I guess I was trying to make my job easier somewhat ,But I will go back to the old way for now.
Feed them all an 'all flock' type feed....with oyster shell in a separate container for the layers.

Update: I have left out the container of oyster shell and havr seen the laying hens pecking in it. They continue to get the hang of the big feeder. I am leaving their trough full out in the big yard.
Since May 25th i continued to get shelless eggs then little by little the shells seemed more formed though still broke. Fortunately no one was eating the egg...except ants. Ugh.

And then yesterday I got 5 beautiful whole eggs. Today I got 4 and a tiny egg. But it had a hard shell. Hopefully done with this now. Tired of cleaning up that mess.
