Husband's taking her to the vet today. We've known about the tumors for a while, but they haven't been a problem. One has grown quite quickly, and now it's impeding her movement. She's at least 17; Husband has had her for 16 and 1/2.

I'm kind of bracing for the worst today....it's either going to be expensive, or it's time to let her go. Neither of which will make for a cheerful husband (he distrusts vets generally).

So sorry

I'm sure he'll do the best thing for his dog. I lost 2 last year and it's tough everytime, but I had to let them go and I have no guilt knowing it's what I had to do. I think you just feel it in your gut when the time comes.

I'm ready for her to take the big sleep in the doghouse in the sky.

She's old, she can't see or hear very well.

But, she predates me. It's hard, but I'll know in about an hour what the prognosis is.

yeah. He stinks at decisions like these. It took the silly boy nearly two years to decide I should be his wife.

It's easy for me since I'm not attached to her, but poor Husband didn't sleep last night for worrying.

Oh well. Off they go. Time to pray.

If it were me, I'd let her go only because I wouldn't want to spend the money on the inevitable. The vet costs in my area have SKYROCKETED to the point that I won't be keeping any more dogs after mine are gone. I too question mosts vets today.

The dawg as an infected lipoma. she came home with anti inflamatories, antibiotics, and pee medicine (she loses urine in her sleep). Vet agrees that she still has spunk, so it's not "down" time yet. However, pending results of her bloodwork, we may be looking at surgery. She weighs 45 pounds, at least five of which is tumor.

I'm glad kevin had a good experience with the vet, and I'm glad he's happy with the course of action. If she can't have surgery, we keep her comfy and manage the possibility of infection until it's time for doggie hospice.

So far we're only at $250. We may get out of this for only $500.

If the animals rights activists get their way, none of us will be having pets. The vets won't be able to pay for malpractice insurance to cover animals with human rights. No vet care, no having pets. If you think vet bills are expensive now, just wait until animals have to be treating like they are people----heart transplants, kidney dialysis, etc.... Most vets around here won't put a pet down on a person's say so. They have to exhaust all medical aid (lots of $$$$) before they will even consider it. Since you are a guardian, you don't OWN the animal, therefore you don't really have 100% say so about their well being. Ugh. Just Ugh.
