Hi!

My very small Old English Game Bantie is sitting on her eggs- I finally found her nest, under the dog house, sneaky girl. She has been in the same pen as a large Cochin Rooster. I saw him hop on her once (poor thing, I didn't even realize it would be attempted!). Is there any chance that her eggs are fertile?

Thank you!

If there's a rooster around and you've actually seen him mount her and touch vents,
then yes, there's a chance the eggs are fertile.

How long has she been sitting and are you sure she's been really sitting tight 23/7(23 becuase she needs to get up once a day to eatdrinkpoop)?

After 7-10 days you could candle the eggs to see if there's any development.

Thank you I will see what we end up with. I think she has been sitting pretty tight as the first four days, I thought that maybe a cat or a hawk got her- didnt see her at all until breakfast on day four. I have seen her once on day five (when I followed her to her stash) and once today. I guess I will be able to candle tomorrow and see if anything is happening. Thanks!!

So I candled to day (day 7 or 8) and nothing is happening. Looks like he missed!

Are her eggs small and light colored, easy to see thru?
Might want to wait until day 10-12 to make sure before you pull them, especially if you're new to candling...I had a hard time seeing my first time.
