How many eggs does an old English game hen lay per year?

is that all so they aren't a good breed to keep for egg production. I have 1 old English game cockerel and 6 warrens which i hope to cross breed but if what you say is true then i should look for a better cockerel such as a warren or rhode island red. Old English game hens are meant to be broody so perhaps my cross breeds will go broody and sit on eggs as at the moment my warrens don't sit but they were breed just for egg laying so i don't suppose they will sit.

They lay medium size off white eggs and I think they are the most beautiful of eggs. Yes, they don't lay prolifically but for me it wouldn't be an issue. You could bring in a egg laying machine cockerel but it may not make a difference for a few generations. Try it and see! If you need egg production it would be better to go with an established breed.
