I checked them for lice and they dont seem to have any, it just really worrys me knowing they can easily get them with other hens having them!

She's broody! And she did give me that final egg I anticipated. Took an hour or so off the nest today (I tucked her final egg into the carton I have "chilling" to hatch) and she was back sitting on the sacrifice eggs.) She even found the right nest!!! (Better than my Red Sex Link last year!) So I'll collect the eggs I hope she'll hatch for us for another day or two. Make sure Naima is committed and .....![]()
I'm still thinking my Red Sex Link looks like she's considering another brood this year and I have a Splash Ameraucana looking suspicious as well. I may have a coop FULL of broodies before I know it! (I wish!!!)
Sounds like your addicted join the club. And congrats on the great hatch!!My cochin Lily is a momma againafter waiting 3 weeks she finaly has 3 lil barnyard mix chicks to raise. And my silkie sukie is now sitting on 5 silkie eggs, I snuck them under her on the 6th!![]()
And I've got 17 chicks that hatched out the bator last saturday! Ok I'll admit it I love have chicks everywhere![]()
I think I'm addicted![]()
Best 1 I've seen yet.
Pepper has gone broody! Yea! Second time this year, when she weaned her chicks at four weeks I thought, maybe she'll go again and have left her eggs alone...and there she is, day two. I am thinking from what I've been learning that I will mark her eggs when she takes her break, so I'll know if someone sneaks an egg in there, two, they go on lock down two days before hatch...would that be a good time to put her in the brooder pen? I want her to be able to come and go when she wants, and she picked the spot she's in. (She's fairly ferocious so i doubt another hen will lay there...just move next door) Moe has been one week behind her in the chick department, and today she's been fairly friendly to me lately, and not with the flock, ...is it wrong of me to want her to go broody? (I think it's the besthave toyed with idea of incubator, but so feel it's cheating when i have some good mamas. If this keeps up, I will definetly need a larger coop. Oh yeah! What's the latest day to sneak another egg or two in there?
One thing you have to remember is when your hen feels she has sat long enough which is usually 3 days after last chick hatches she will most likely get up and leave the rest of the eggs. I usually give them and egg from the next days lay and thats it. Your decision.Hey I would like to know that too! My broody Cornish has been setting for a couple of days on eggs that were not fertile but last night I gave her 5 guinea eggs to hatch. Can I sneak another one or two under her today or tomorrow??
