Just to update, everything is going well!
I am probably going to be moving babies and mom outside to the coop tomorrow. We will see though. The egg I gave her a few days ago seems to have been abandoned. I even contemplated walking around with it in my shirt to keep it warm, but I doubt it will hatch (hatch date is apparently tomorrow). If an egg gets to cold a few days before hatch, is it totally done for?
mine are great egg layers. But skiddish crazy freaks. I only have 1 chicken out of 80-90 whatever the number is that will let me hold her. But then I just don't do that.
I do have a black Sumatra hen who jumps on my back every now and then. 1st thing in the morning while I'm feeding. I don't know what WL's are. I stink at acronymsWow that's a lot of WLs.
I guess I should clarify that by "lets me hold her" I don't mean to cuddle, I just mean she doesn't take off like a rocket at my mere presence like my Ameraucana will do, but instead can be caught up and inspected without my losing a finger.
She's definitely not as sweet as my Lavender Orpingtons who love to be picked up. Or as sweet as my Ancona AC who at 45 weeks old hasn't laid an egg yet, perhaps that is why she is so sweet. AC has the odd habit of jumping on my back if I even appear to be leaning forward, just so she can hang out with me. I take her off and carry her a bit and remind her that one year is her deadline.
duh, I had a brain fart. White Leghorns. I only have 2 of them. I was referiing to the number of birds in my flock that aren't currently destined for the freezer. I'm not counting the new roo's as part of the flock. A few may make the cut to stay that I incubated. Broody born Sumatra roo's get a free pass and get to live the good lifeWow that's a lot of WLs.

she has got 11 days and shes got gape worm so im waiting for treatment to come but she wont eat anything so i was hoping sugar water would helpHow much longer before she hatches Johnn? she does look a bit spent. maybe some vitamins in her water would help.
I cant get my hands on anything untill sunday and her treatment would have come by then, i just dont want the sugar water to give her a boost to make her want to leave the eggsMaybe molasses water? I had to give that to a cat once who was diabetic and slipping into a coma. It helped her blood sugar levels. But something like Gatorade would be better then molasses water.

You mean you can't worm her til Sunday? you can give her sugar water for a one time thing because it will elevate her blood sugar if you keep it up which is not good. Can you get some poultry vitamins? Gape worms is very serious i hope you can get her treated quicker than this coming Sunday.I cant get my hands on anything untill sunday and her treatment would have come by then, i just dont want the sugar water to give her a boost to make her want to leave the eggs
