Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Well, my olive egger now has five little chicks under her. They hatched yesterday, I gave them to her in the middle of the night, and this morning she was very content with her new role as a mother. I took away her fake eggs, and she has been broody for almost a month. A first time for her, though.

Hi all,
Just wanted to give an update on my broody Black Star hen, thanks to all of you who gave me advice last month!
She is still going strong, and is sitting on 9 eggs at day 19. No evidence of peeps or pips yet, but she's been doing a great job of sticking with the nest so I hope she'll have some hatch. Hopefully I'll have some chick pictures of my own to share this weekend!

Go broody go!!!
Can't wait to see pics of her babies!!!

My bantam cochin has just hatched out 5 lavender orpington and 1 split black/lavender orp chicks for me, so cute!! I just have to share a picture.

The babies are officially 5 weeks old and both Smokey and Topsy had their babies on the roost with them tonight. My how time flies. I'm sure those two biddies are already scheming how soon to go broody again. No pics of it though because my iPhone had 10% battery left and I was using the flashlight app to check on the chicks. :)
