Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Hello everyone :) My broodies have new chicks again, here is Molly with 3 of her 4 new babies,
the other one ran behind big sister as I was ready to snap the photo :) 3 of the chicks are Molly's offspring (White Silkie)
and 1 is from anothers egg, Silkie cross wynadotte.
Big sister is 15 weeks old (aracauna) and still sleeps with mama, but she does help mama with the babies, so it's not a problem :)

Here is Sooty ( Black Silky cross Wynadotte) with her 2 new babies, it will be interesting to see
what colours these two grow into, papa is a White Silkie!

wow!, i love sooty!!

thought I woudl join in over here. I am getting frustrated with my BO bird. She is just a year and a half and is sitting on her 5th cluthc of eggs. She sits more than she lays, but is a sweet bird. I am having a tough time finding kind, large fowl birds that actually want to give me eggs. My kids prefer the bantams that are so much easier to pick up etc.
well she is sitting on 3 d'uccle eggs and one mystery egg. THought it was a silky egg, but the more I look at it, the larger it looks. hmm... well they are due around a week from today, so we shall see. there were 6 eggs and 5 were viable. There are one or two that look a little questionable, but pretty sure they are viable. Time will tell. We are adding on to our coop so they will have some more space as well.

The Whole Family:

Maximus, Mathilda, The Wiclo 5 (2 weeks old today) and The Homegrowns (2 weeks old tomorrow)

Sweet pics and names.

Here's my latest group of 'co-broodies'. Have had two other pairs this year - both cobrooded chicks with no problems - this one is even better because princess (the little araucana) has decided she MUST stay in the same nest box with my much larger easter egger. They only have three eggs to sit on - and two will hatch long before the other since princess just went broody a week ago. No matter what I do, she won't sit on her own egg alone lol.

So cute! Our hens just hiss and shriek if they're in a box together xD Glad to see some get along!
