Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

We had 36*  I had on sweat shirt and jacket, it takes awhile to get use to it.
Same here Miss Lydia. I had a long sleeve shirt, a sweater AND a jacket. It was so cold today :(

One of my chicks (not from a broody) escaped the pen and nearly died from the cold. When I left it before bed I secured the fencing better and it was still a little weak, but better.

Aww I hope it makes it aoxa.

It's fine :) Could hardly tell which one it was. I think I found it just in time after work. If I was home, I would have found it plenty before the cold could have bothered it. Darn you work!! :p

On a side note.. It is WAY too cold out tonight. First year in our new house. I've been starting fires for the first time in my life. Wow that heat feels nice inside :D

Makes me sleepy..

It was 45F when I checked on the girls before bedtime. Topsy was sitting in the nest box and her two 9 week olds were squished in there with her. She didn't seem all that happy about them being there, but I suppose if she wanted them gone she would have done something about it.

My silkies don't make it to 9 weeks with their chicks until they are broody again :barnie

One of my broody silkies had a pip this morning! :yesss:

And the baby was still good this morning that was cold! :D

Congrats! Glad the baby is still good too. I've noticed that my silkies are a lot hardier than I initially thought.

Topsy is still young - she just turned 1 year old on Weds - she'll probably pump up the volume as she gets older LOL!
