Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Mama 1st thing this morning. The 8 fuzzy butts 1st 1/2 hour off of the nest. It was about 38 outside. Notice how they don't care... :D  Mama is such a good girl :D
Nice picture! Your chicks seem a lot more balanced than mine at that age. Especially the silkies. They can't navigate as well as day olds. Takes them 5 days to actually get rid of their rubber legs

I had food/water set up on cinder blocks with fire wood resting beside it for a step. The silkies couldn't even manage that! Almost starved themselves to death :barnie

thanks. At 1 day old Sumatra chicks can jump/fly up 4 to 6 inches or more if needed to go where mama goes. They have been running around the front yard all day long. They are going to be tired tonight!

My chicks are 15 weeks today, and guess who is STILL with them!!

Even Melow joined today!, family reunion!:

Very good mamas all of them, and Johnns wants to start her own flock.

i think so too!, Melows not intrested in them though, she likes them but is not intrested in still mothering them!!, my orp probablies does, she takes them away from the other flock, she eats away from them, she sleeps in the seperate shed again, shes showing no sign of laying, she dosen't even have a red comb again yet!, but i cant tell if shes still moulting or not, she has so many feathers!
