Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Go out with the broom, when he comes at you give him a good shove with the broom, lifting him off the ground if you can then stand your ground, if he comes again use the broom again give him a swat, not hard to hurt him but just letting him know you are boss roo not him. He's probably feeling his hormones and just needs to be taken down a peg or 2.
alright thanks i'll try this

i went outside and he was standing up to me in front of the hens trying to bite my leg i started pushing him away with my foot over and over then finally he gave up and ran in the bushes lol .. and one of the roosters and hens was watching but my mom said it is good that he is trying to be dominate because he has a mate and he never tried mating or crowing yet and now this so idk

I have a broody sitting on about 8 eggs right now. Hopefully we'll have some chicks the beginning of December. Not sure though she got confussed the other day and switched boxes. I put her back in her original box and she settled back in but I don't know how long (anywhere between .5 hours and 4 hours) she was away from the original eggs.

If you can section off the area where she is so that the correct nest is the only one she sees, that should fix the problem.

Jason,

Wow.. It must be happening because he has no fear of humans. His dad is NOT like that at all. None of his brother are either, but I never handle my males. I want them to be stand-offish of me.

Do not handle him at all. If you want to re-establish dominance, take a stick (or broom ;) ) and follow him around. Touch him with it where-ever he goes. Let him know that you are in charge of the situation.

He's a ball of hormones right now I suppose. Don't parade him in front of the girls, this does not work.

Also, watch for your houdan. Make sure you do not handle that male. They are supposedly notorious shin kickers. Gigi has been chasing strangers, so we are working on that. He hasn't caused any harm, but you definitely don't want roosters to be comfortable enough around humans to do this.
