Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Finally cut the apron strings at 25 weeks. wow I bet thats a record.
well they are 22 weeks, just the othger 3 was clocking :), i wouldnt be shocked if it is, she still sleeps with them but i think thats just because they are who she likes to sleep with and she likes it in there, but she is back to her old self now, running round beating every hen up in site!

Thaught i would let yous guys know, the orp has LEFT the chicks now and is the only hen laying now :), im eating her egg as i type, havent had eggs off her in 25 weeks!

I was wondering if that would ever happen! I am actually a bit jealous. NONE of my girls are laying right now. I think Summer decided its too late in the year to start again. I am still waiting on Pidge to lay (29 weeks and nothing). My 3 big girls have all either just finished or are trying to finish molting and my 4th layer isn't quite 17 weeks old.

I really can't wait for Pidge to start laying. She is a banty Cochin and, I am hoping, a broodzilla. :D

Smokey is acting weird again. Oh please don't be dying or worse yet, broody!

She had laid her eggs for the past several days in the alfalfa hay I have in the back of the coop. I went to clean up the coop after being gone all weekend and found her sitting on the empty nest she created. She ran off quickly when she saw me.

That was this morning. A few minutes ago I went to gather eggs. Found a lav orp sitting on a nest of two blue eggs. She ran if when I opened the door. No smokey anywhere to be found.

We hunted the yard and found her crouched by the fence and all puffed out. I'm worried about her now. :(
