They should be put on postcards or framed!!!

Just got my first real broody of the year! She is a black sex link, ten months old, and MEAN. I actually don't need a broody right now, since I only have a few hens laying, and my replacement pullets aren't going to start until july. She's still laying, because I keep taking the eggs away, but was wondering if it's possible to keep her broody, but still laying until july?

If she is laying, she isn't broody or not properly broody anyways. It is probably just your other hens sitting on the edge of the nest and laying an egg. It would also be risky leaving her with no eggs until July because when you put them under, she might not sit for the full length of time and if she does sit for the full length of time, she will be quite unhealthy as they drop loads in condition when sitting.

No expert here but I had my first broody the day after christmas, I named her Mary. I kept tyring to break her, but to no avail.
In April I bought my first hatching eggs and she hatched 8 of 8!
I would say give it a try!
Just make sure she is eating and drinking.
I put my broody out of her nesting area twice a day for a snack, drink, a dust bath oh and yes a biggggggg poop!

My broody was off the nest for 4 hours today and the eggs would be about day 17. She wanted to be free ranging so bad and I couldn't get her back in (first have to keep an eye on the rooster, then I wasn't going into the tall grass for her). I'm hoping this didn't affect the eggs too badly. I don't know what I'll do with the chicks...Hen house is sized for 16 and I've got 16 (provided no deaths). I guess I'll make a decision once I see how many actually hatch.
