Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Hello! First time hatcher here. Have 10 Blue Orp eggs set under my SPPR broody. Candled today. One saw one "textbook" egg with the veining and embryo visible.Most looked half dark, half light, 1 was totally clear/unfertilized and the rest looked completely dark. Hoping for a decent hatch this time. Our last attempt was 0% (but I didn't know to let them sit point down for 24 hours). We can only go up from there! LOL

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

SPPR=Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock? You'll have to post some pictures!

Sounds like they are pretty far along. Good luck on your hatch!

Hi everyone I have a question I have 6 hens that are broody and it is close to time to hatch I did not plan this and I tried to break them but they just kept sitting so my question is it is going to be 107 here tomorrow will it cook the eggs like if they were in a incubator should I take them away from the hens and put them in the incubator I have it all ready to go would apperciate any thoughts and advice on this problem they are all good moms and this is not their first time but they have never done it in this heat Thanks and a well learned lesson never let a bunch of hens go broody at the same time I felt sorry for them they just would not give up.

Last night my momma hen who has 6 SFH chicks that are just 2 weeks old, was up on the roost with the other hens!

The chicks were chirping away, trying to find their momma.

I took momma off the roost & carried her back to the other coop. She promptly took her chicks into the area where she brooded her chicks, they sleep there at night.

She is my third broody this year. First broody stated with get chicks till 8 weeks, second broody stayed with her chicks till week 5.

This is way too early!!!!!!
Very puzzling!!!!!!
