Thank you Miss L.

I put the eggs under Hermione and she sat for the whole time, leaving the nest once a day, sometimes twice, for maybe 3 mins at a time. Day 21 I hear peeping. One pips. Day 22 one zipped and 2 bouncing eggs. Day 23: The zipped one's innards had got stuck to the shell and came out!!!!!! And a resounding SILENCE from the other 2. Took away dead chick. Gave it another day: Both were motionless in the shells. Didn't have the heart to break them open!!!!

This is my old cob, Nova (RIP) with her personal shetland companion

Because then I will be sure that nothing wil come out if I place them under mama. You see I have the broody with the rest of the flock.I didnt seperate her.

I tried but she wanted that nest only. And that nest is attached to the coop and cannot be detached. When i seperated her the last thing that she cared about was the eggs.I left her in the other pen for a day and she didnt eat or drink water. She was trying all day to find a way out so I let her out.And she returned to that nest.

Could the turkey eggs not be fertile? But we have a tom and I saw him "working" on her...
And i am sure that the chicken ones were fertile because one of them broke and there was an embryo inside.

Well I am going to wait till Wednesday and then I am going to open them and she what is inside.

Most of my broodys were with the rest of the flock, they most likely won't mess with her, not much will mess with a mama hen and chicks. But you know your chickens and turkeys better than anyone.
I was on the NC. thread this morning when someone was talking about it being day 23 for eggs in their bator, when he was going to turn it off and clean it up when he heard peeping and their was a chick, so now he's waiting till tomorrow to take the rest of the eggs out if they haven't hatched. good thing he gave it an extra couple days. so maybe those chicks under mama still have a chance. Did your dad candle?

I told him to do me a favour and go candle them and he said to me"Why,I am not going to see anything, plus its only the shell there is nothing inside"(refering to how lightweight they were.)
I dont know what to tell him to convince him.I will ask him to candle for one more time and i will tell him to do a further investigation to the nest and see for any crack or pip.I hope he is not just waiting to see for the mama with a trail of chicks behind her.I think he has checked the nest but the hen doesn't let him touch the eggs.
She acts like a rattlesnake.

Countrygirl you haven't said whether she has eggs! If not, give her some falsies (golf balls will do). This will encourage her to sit tight. Then I would give her another couple of days and move her with her eggs down to ground level. Give her somewhere private where the other hens can't get to her, but so that she can be closed in with her eggs.

Good luck

All is well here with the adopted chicks. Both hens are happy with their chicks, being good mamas and the chicks are healthy and very active! I am still very disappointed about the lack of silkie chick success. I hate to say it, but I think rooster has numbered days on this little homestead...
