Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

congrats to all those who have chicks hatching!

I had a bizarre chick experience.

This is Prissy & her 4 Tetra Tint/ SFH chicks.

The chicks are now 5 weeks. Yesterday morning I found the smaller pullet sprawled out in the run. I was sure she was dead but when I went to pick her up she was barely breathing. She was out running around with her hatch mates the night before.
I held her in the sun, she was cold & couldnt hold her head up.
I brought her inside, wrapped her in a towel, gave her some gatorade from a syringe then she slept. 2 hours later I gave her some more gatorade, she was trying to sit up. I gave her some feed & she ate like she was starving. She napped again on the towel. 2 hours later she was back to normal! She went out last night to join her family. This am she was fine. :)
I guess she was just cold?

On a happier note my CCL Beatrice is sitting on 10 SFH eggs. I removed her from her nest this am, she ate, drank & had a luxurious dust bath. I checked the eggs & heard peeping!! Hatch day is tomorrow!

I always love the chick in the feathers shots. When they climb all over the momma and pop out from behind a mass of feathers I smile.

Me too! They pop out like, halfway up her back. That would tickle to have babies running through your feathers.

We have a broody hen and we where hoping to switch some chicks with the infertile eggs and golf ball she's been sitting on for 21 days now.
We have heard to do that at night. Does anyone else have any advice?
