Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

And grand total of 9 cute fluff butts are happy and visibly healthy. They seem to be moving around and momma is letting them venture out a bit more. I'm sure she'll bring them off the nest tomorrow. So we have 8 Bantam Cochins and 1 standard pure Amer

I'm getting stress on my upcoming hatch. Should start by Wednesday. Thanks to Mother Nature, our original plan is now NOT a good plan! We had over 6 inches of rain last night!!! Now my small coop that I was going to move broody and chicks to is wet, wet, wet! And more rain in forecast, so not going to dry out in the next day or two!

Plan B is to let her hatch in the dog kennel she is in in the main coop, then move broody, chicks, and all in the kennel into a room inside the old farm house that we don't use anymore. It s a makeshift addition to the old house that was never completely finished. It has OSB floors and walls, windows, and doors. I would move them all now, but scared of bumping eggs around carrying the kennel. It's about 100 feet from our coops,,,and the ground is rough and uneven. UGH!

Wish me luck! Keep your fingers crossed this works!

Sounds like you have a good back up plan.... glad the flooding hasn't been any worse for you...
I agree with waitingtill after hatch, no reason to upset the broody beforehand.
Good luck when you make the move!

I was planning on letting her hatch and care for the chicks in the main chicken house, but my husband doesn't want to. He's afraid one of the more aggressive hens will kill them.
