Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

My one Welbar insists on laying her egg with the broody. There are 6 other boxes to pick from.

What do you do---do you have the "set" eggs marked and remove the added eggs daily?

I have a question:
Can a silkie go broody because the younger silkies go under her to sleep ? She eats a little but stays puffed up all day. She sits on a floor level roost most of the day but sleeps in the " nesting box" ( unused so far ), with the two small silkies under her....... could she think she's their mommy???
Has anyone had a young hen that has not laid an egg go broody?? She is so antisocial, she had lice a few weeks ago but their gone now.

Nchls school:
Her weight is good , she eats normally, comes over when I bring new food , she has been puffed up for at least 3 weeks . Poop is normal I watch her so much I have seen her poop!!( My breeder said she had a moody silkie that was like this)

The one thing I've seen is her one eye seems closed a little bit she can see me with it.

I've looked at her vent so often , looks normal .the other female sings the " laying song" often but No eggs from either one.cant feel an egg in her...

Most of the eggs that she is sitting on are turkey eggs, so they are easy to tell apart. I did slip a few chicken eggs under her on day 21, and those I drew a circle around the egg with a sharpie so I know which ones are developing. I will be candling the chicken eggs tonight. I can't wait!

So adorable!
I can't wait until my broody hatches some eggs so I can spend all day watching her.
