Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

The duct taped egg is dead, I threw it out. Another egg was also dead so I threw it out too.

Still got 2 chicks hatching this weekend which I will put in lockdown tonight.
And 3 chicks hatching next weekend

I've only used broody hens so far and I prefer a reliable broody too. However, I have 4 eggs in an incubator right now for the first time. We shall see! This broody was not as good, maybe due to a lack of experience. Only two of her eggs hatched, although it looks like most developed well.
I do not have much luck with incubators; my wife on the other hand does-constantly changing the temperature control-won't listen to the need for "lockdown"-temps get up to 109- and humidity...gads-and the eggs hatch with no DIS. She hatched 19 of 24 eggs. Now she has 30+ eggs developing with my removing only six that were infertile.
I candled again last night expecting all the eggs to be DIS. Every single one was alive and growing.
Now she has a new incubator and is adding eggs each day

. I have no doubts we will be over run with even more chicks.

I'll be most interested in hearing how your four eggs do.

I'm sure she'll be adding more eggs today. She is having fun and all smiles. The eggs are hatching so I guess... The weather here is damp/humid lately.

You know adding eggs every day is a serious staggered hatch----is what I am saying---interesting to see how that turns out.

Yes, I do know. And I have explained this and much more on incubation to my wife. But...kind of hard to be credible when she does everything wrong and the eggs hatch anyway. Oh well... As long as she's happy and the chicks are healthy!

That's incredible! Also makes me wonder if my eggs will hatch now. I was doubtful, even though they seem to be developing well. My temps have fluctuated occasionally from 100-104 in my still air incubator. I thought for sure I had screwed things up. But I guess we'll have to wait and see... 6 days or so to go...
