I wasn't planning on another broody hen!!! Every day she sat, every day I took all the eggs. Each day she was in a different nest box sitting on eggs. After 2 weeks I decided the only way to fix this was stick some eggs under her and get it over with!!!

DH okayed chicks in the basement for the winter; and he's building a small coop next to the house, maybe a place to put older chicks . . . . Honestly, I was very nicely warned not to hatch chicks until spring by a master breeder--and he is right!!! Too cold, too many complications with many groups of babies. You are smart to wait.

Edited for spelling.

OK ,as of this evening there is one little chick out in the coop and 13 more eggs to go-we'll see what morning brings!!!! Probably won't be able to sleep. I should have known something was up today when I went to get eggs and momma had a feather in her mouth---she must have been really aggravated with another girl getting to close and gave her a little bite---LOL

what is the rate of hatch with well shipped eggs? My silkie hen has raised NN, keets who 'depoofed' her, so ordered her some silkie eggs from a byc member- they came in today very well wrapped- they are sitting tonite to give her in the morning- just curious what other folks experiences are?
