Still no sign of more hatching, but plan on giving them a few more days, just in case, hate to have only one hatch- but understand it happens with shipped eggs and the post office.... and a holiday- no telling what the conditions were for the little things!

My broody Mom (9/10 a big fat hen) is recovering from her loss, looks better today than all week and is cuddled up with the rooster in a nesting box tonight instead of roosting outside of the coop high up over my head, where it takes stunning acts of gymnastic ability for me to get to her and lock her up safe. We still haven't caught the nasty raccoons and have changed out bait tonight.

Love seeing all these fluffy new chicks, gives me hope!

I'm happy for everyones' chicks hatching!

I wish this one egg would hatch though... It looks like it pipped.. Sort of. Today is day 21 or 22, and there's a crack in it but it doesn't quite look like the pipped eggs I've seen from my other broodies. I candled it just some minutes ago and the crack is going all around the egg, well almost all around. It doesn't look like a normal crack though... The ones I've seen were all zig-zag like and this one is smooth, like a line. Maybe I'm just over reacting.

sounds like one of mine, i am pretty sure nothing is happening, have you candled yours?

Well if so, I did candle, and there is something in there. Sigh, she left the nest so many times.. Today she was outside of her nest and preening herself... I switched the egg to another broody. I know it's just one egg and there's 4 more chicks due to hatch next week, but I was really hoping for a chick. Well, if it doesn't hatch I have something to examine. My curiousity is strange sometimes.
I cracked open another dead egg before. The chick looked ready, but it was cold. Mumsy left the nest with her 3 other hatchlings and left the egg I guess.

well, i went in and checked, the cracked one had really cracked more, took it and two other 'sloshy' eggs, and opened them outside, no babies just spoiled yolks. Checked the resat and any like that i am assuming are not doing anything, i did leave 2 under flo that look like

they are doing something. One question on setting shipped eggs- i let these sit overnite, then gave them to her- is there a different procedure? and what are the procedures for shipping this time of year with shipped eggs- with the temps and all?

The egg didn't hatch. It too was sloshy. I cracked it open and it smelled like poo, there was spoiled yolk, red jelly, and in the red jelly was a little black orb. I guess it died early..
I got 4 more hopefully hatching next week.
