I think I am going to have to buy another dog crate! My 1st hatch is still using the 1st dog crate they are 7 weeks old. This will by my 3rd one.

I hope that she can handle the 10 I put under her. She is an EE.

I haven't been on this thread in a while. I am glad to see it is still going. My broodies are starting. So far, only 1 broody. She hatched out 2 chicks. The third chick didn't make it. My broodies always go in the same order. Wilma first, next will be Betty, so on. I should have 12-14 broods this year. I hope my dining room is big enough. Here is a pic of Wilma and her 2 babies. Unfortunately, one of the chicks has the wrong daddy, so not a pure. The other chick is pure silkie.

Hi all... this would seem to the thread to share my story... I'm super excited because we are expecting our first chicks sometime soon from our first broody hen. First, our little red bantam disappeared from our coop and run. She would escape quite frequently, but I didn't think anything about it and would just put her back in when we went out into the yard. We let the chickens free range for a few hours every day anyway. So then she disappeared completely and we didn't see her for several days. At about the same time, a random large dog wandered through our yard. I was really upset and really assumed the worst. Then one day, she just reappeared in the coop, eating voraciously. Then she disappeared again for a few days. THEN I knew! She was sitting on eggs somewhere. It took a few days to find her, but when we did, she was sitting on 21 eggs!!! 21!! She had been laying for quite some time before she started sitting. And it was really, really cold out. She found a little window well under our porch where she was sitting. Anyway... I waited until night, took a small box and put her in it. Gathered her eggs and moved her and her eggs to a large dog crate in my basement. I candled the eggs and tossed 7 clear eggs. I know most of the other eggs had something in them, some were obviously alive and well and a few I wasn't entirely sure about. The eggs now look pretty dark all the way through. Can't wait to see them when they hatch!!

They are so cute! Thank you so much for sharing!

I checked on Smokey this morning and she's all smooshed down flat as a pancake on those eggs. LOL! It's going to be unseasonably warm - 70F today and turn back to cold tomorrow.

I checked my calendar again and I will go to lockdown with the bator eggs Saturday evening. That's Day 18, they went in on 2/7 with an expected hatch date of 2/28.

Can't wait!
