Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

The temperature has dropped thankfully, so hopefully it'll be a bit easier on the mother! I can't wait to candle them at 7 days and see which are doing anything, I've tried candling at 2 and 3 days but obviously seen just about nothing xD
And so sorry to hear about that stoat John, hopefully the chicks being around the mum will give her the strength she needs to pull though!
Looking forward to hearing how many you have!!

Well the mother orpington is fine!!, i think Asparagus helped her because in the big patched of her feathers there was afew of his!!, when i let thm out today him and Bella startted playing and then started fighting!!, he is above 3 hens now, his mother, Bella and a ex batt. Here they are today:

the mother orpington is the back one, and Bella is in the middle!

we have a broody silkie. i tried to break her with no luck so i gave in a let her have a couple eggs. well the problem was the other chickens would pile in the nest box with her at night. so each morning i would find her in a different box on different eggs. well i broke down and set up the inside chick coop for her and moved her inside with her eggs. she seems to be in a much better mood and very content sitting on her eggs in her private suite. guess in a few weeks i wil get to see her experience being a mother. she is 10 months old and this is her third time broody. second time sitting. sadly the first time she sat it was on a single infertal egg.
