Eggs and chicks and birds are their main source of food Gab so...I think it's highly unlikely.lol.You could look up deterants for them maybe they hate something more then they like chicks and eggs?
Quote: I was afraid of that. Hey is electric fence a good option. If its too dry in your area for a good shock you can run two lines parallel to each other with opposite polarity. Place it where they would come in contact BEFORE they reach fencing or structures. Like any predators If the fence bites they keep clear BUT they will defend their territory keeping other predators away. LOL Kind of enlisting the Son of a Bisquit without his permission.

In case you all didn't know I am relentless when served up a puzzle to solve.... not saying this is a solution to marauding Goannas but worth a try.

Down the page there is a list of stuff to repel Iguanas. I know Iguanas are vegetarians but some of the mechanical deterrents would work for climbing critters.
Annnd they suggest spraying Neem oil they don't like the smell. The deal is Neem oil is also a good mite spray.... Not hazardous for the chickens.

i was reading some stuff to help you and some people said their guinea fowl scare the goannas away and other say a scrub turkey will chase them away or electric fencing .. people said you can scare it with loud noises but im not sure i don't have big lizards like that here so im just used to the normal predator here
Thanks guys and gals. I don't think I can do electric fencing- expensive, children. and I don't have guinea fowl but we do have bush turkeys around so they may help. I may try the Neem Oil but will see how things go hopefully (touch wood) he/she doesn't come back, I have set up two traps around area so I will see if I can catch him.I was afraid of that.
