Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Getting the Orpington some hatching eggs from her old owner on Tuesday, I really hope she sits for another 21 days!!

How long should I let my hen set before giving up on them? It is day 24 and 3 chicks have hatched and are doing great. She rolled one egg out of the nest. I am assuming it was bad. She is still setting on 7 eggs. This is her first hatch and my first. I woul appreciate any advice.

As of an hour ago, I had 4 with more pipping. I'm gonna go check again and see if I can get some pics.

Chickens tend to naturally give them 5 days from the first hatching. So if she says wait, I'd do just that. ^^ She sounds like a very good and wise Broody

She will stop shortly. I would feed the momma some scrambled eggs by putting it on a tiny dish and she will feed the babies some too.

She was still sitting on the ping pong balls last night. They will call when the chicks are there so sometime this morning probably.

This is Snowflake with a couple of her chicks. The others are hiding under her. She's got 10!!
