Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Little boogers Vanilla Ice and Shirley Jones are either stealing eggs or others are laying on their nest. I found five new eggs under the two of them when I picked them up today. Every day I double check that they haven't added more eggs to their pile. I'm glad I wrote on the eggs to identify which ones they are supposed to be hatching. They are down to two eggs. One is green the other brown. I have no idea if these are fertile and I think they have one more week to go before hatching.

Bunny's six adopted 5 week olds were up on the roost tonight with the rest of the flock. Second night up there. And Bunny has started laying again. Yeah! My dark chocolate egg girl I have missed your eggs!

Hey guys I need some expert opinions. Yesterday my hens eggs started hatching. And the ants have swarmed her pen. I decided I would move her this morning since all the eggs should have been hatched. I just came back in and I have one egg unhatched and one that is halfway zipped but not moving. I'm afraid it may be dead. I moved momma hen and chicks and eggs to another pen and put them all under her. Should I try to help this chick? If it is alive that is. I'm not sure how long it has been like this but for a good 10 minutes it did not move. Also when I went down there the hen had left these two eggs uncovered

So I gave my Cochin 10 welsummer eggs last night. Today I see 5 eggs in front of her. I shoved them back under her. If I see them out again I guess I'll put in my bator. Maybe 10 is too much for her? She's a big girl /shrug
