Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

This girl is older than mud..................a mixed breed and hatches two clutches a year...................
She is sharing 8 chicks with a younger hen. couldn't get them to cooperate for a picture together...................
It is so much fun to watch them.the chicks go back and forth to the hens except at bed time . Then return to the hens that hatched them.
5 with one mom, three with the other.................

[COLOR=008080]One content Mom. .She went almost 60 days setting..............her eggs just did not hatch, could not get her to quit..............[/COLOR] [COLOR=008080]She would steal eggs and hide them................Gave her two eggs right before hatch from a different hen and finally....................babies for her...............

This is my wee Rosie, this is her first clutch that she is attempting to hatch. I got the eggs delivered yesterday (gold laced wyandotte bantam eggs) and she took them under her right away, 6 in total not sure if thats to many or not.

She seems happy enough so fingers crossed that in 21 days I will hear little cheeps of happy wee babies but only time will tell.

I have 5 shipped eggs under a broody hen
5 days to go till day 21 but now I am starting to get worried that they won't hatch because apparently shipped eggs don't hatch as well and as I only have 5........
Do you think they will be alright

I hatch shipped eggs all the time and my best hatches are from my broodies........................

Please let us know how it goes..........
Think you are suffering from what we all go through right before hatch day.
Really, I have done this for a long time and still paceing and sometimes cannot go to sleep because of worrying...................

My dad called me super excited last night to inform me that his broody hen had five new babies with her now. He was raised on a small family farm, but moved away over 50 years ago. He saw my chickens and started missing the farm. He started keeping a small mixed flock this spring,and I've never seen him happier. He has fretted over "Peaches" throughout her entire 21 days on the nest and couldn't wait to see his babies. He sounded like a little kid at Christmas when he called me to tell me about them last night.
