Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I f I had to choose one picture that you have posted of your Buffs..............
I think it might be when Bella headed for the hills with her adopted chicks to avoid
treatment for her foot................

You can just read her mind...............

Haha!, she hated being treated! still hasn't forgive me for it.

We always knew she would be a good mama! She never had the chance to raise her own because we rescued her from the local animal shelter. Looks like she finally found something fulfilling

She will be be a great surrogate hen for this little one:

One of my pullets decided to go broody about a week before these 3 were due to hatch. She's sitting on 9 eggs right now & will use this bator as a back up just in case she decides she no longer wants to brood. She likes it because I bring her treats every day.

That is just too cute.  One of these needs to be recommended for the picture of the week thing.

Well my poor broody crushed her eggs. The nesting box was too small and no hay. She did not give up and she moved over to her sister's egg from today. No nesting box and I picked her up and put hay down. She has the plucked clean broody front and she is right back in the game. Started 8 eggs to hatch just in case she does this again but stays broody

How long does a hen need to be broody before you can successively slip chicks under her?

3 chicks hatched in they r in the garage w light n 10 more to hatch when do I put them back in the coop w the big chickens

HI, My sense is that different people may have different ideas.
I feel best at around two weeks...........
Hope someone else chimes in.Good luck
