Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

100% Hatch!! My Seabright hatched all 6 eggs she was sitting on! I also slipped in 2 EE chicks that I purchased this morning. Just a note- initially she was only sitting on 3 eggs so I put 2 more under her that had been in the fridge for 2 or 3 days, these hatched as well!! So she now has 8 chicks.

Congratulations on your hatch! Good luck with all the hatchlings and fosters.

Here is our very first chick, ever, and number two just an hour later, number three is pushing out of the shell, at this very moment...
If you can't tell, we're just a little excited!

Jut curious, is it common for broodies eggs to hatch a day or so early? 19.5 here
They often do. I usually have day 20 with my broodies (although some have gone onto day 21, but the first start hatching on 29). I've read that 21 is the average for incubators.

Depends on the breed and weather temperature.

They are adorable! Congrats on the hatch and you have every right to be excited! No matter how many broodies you have experienced you will still get a thrill on hatch day (I know we do!)

I have one hen who faithfully hatches at least 1 day early, sometimes a bit sooner. Many of our other hens are pipping and zipping by mid day 20...Some breeds are more prone I think to hatching early also, I believe, though right now my tired brain can't remember which breeds I heard that about... sorry.
