Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

If the eggs are that far apart... I would leave the chicks with the hen and put the eggs in the bator. Then when those eggs hatch, put the new chicks in with mom at night. I introduced store bought chicks up to one week apart and it worked, but... Rumples is crippled and very accepting right now. Other hens might not be the same way.
Ok, thanks for the advice!

I have my first broody!!

Not sure, but congratulations on your first broody!

I HAVE FLUFFY BUTTS!!!!!!!

First time bantam siklieX pullet with a mix of cochin and cochin x silkie cross mixes from herself and two other hens. There are two more bantam eggs under her and one olive egger egg. The only egg that I don't think will hatch is the olive egger egg. (you know, the one I wanted her to hatch!) Three of the chicks have yellow skin and a straight comb. All have feathered feet. Today was day 23 and I was going to cull the eggs tomorrow. She abandoned the nest for three days and then went back, would spend hours off of the nest everyday, tossed all the LF eggs except the OE egg, etc. so I had really low expectations for her and this hatch. Due to problems with the broody/brooding shed I hadn't even moved her out of the main bantam coop.

The only one with black skin and a smooth comb

I have an Australorp hen sitting on two OE eggs, one black sex link egg, and four EE eggs with two weeks to go!

The chicks are doing so well. They are finding their own food too! She will leave them in about 4 weeks!
