Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Anyone ever have a hen kick out a hatching egg? Found one that was booted out of the nest and pipped. Now membrane dried out. I've never incubated or hatched out eggs...I read some posts about helping...so I'm trying. Chick is half out and sleeping now....so far alive. Anyone online to offer some wisdom? How long should I wait? I'm sitting with a brooder lamp pointed at my lap to keep it warm...and I'm trying not to be inpatient. I want it to live!

Can you stick it back under mom? Under he lamp the membrane will dry out and kinda glue it in.

that was my plan. I was moistening the membrane with warm water. The heat lamp was to mitigate the ac temps. I tried to stay outside but it got dark and Mosquitos were swarming...so on the fly this was my improv. The chick got a foot out and pushed the bottom of the shell down...so it's loose now. Seems to be resting a lot. I just didn't want to disturb it any more than I had to hatching. It just streached again...and in peeking down with a limited view I'm fearing the yoke sack is not fully absorbed. I however am not sure what I should be seeing :/. Still think I should stick it back under broody?

Hi everyone! Hope you don't mind if I post up on this thread. I have a broody Bantam Cochin that I have decided to let hatch some eggs. I do not have a rooster and ordered some eggs...also Bantam cochin..that should arrive Thursday. This is the first time I have tried to hatch with a broody AND this will be her first time hatching as well

A little nervous, so any advice or insight from more experienced people before we begin would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Excellent! I just hatched my first chick under a broody and have 6 more developing under a Broody as well. May I recommend the July or Aug Hatch-a-long thread.

My main advice after all my vast experience... Trust the Mamma Hen!
