Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

It's day 20 with my EE hen and nothing so far that I can tell. She still gets off the nest about once a day.... Of course I'm worried that none will hatch.... lol. There's a store close by that sells chicks they get from a hatchery. I wonder if I could sneak a couple under her if none hatch....

I can tell you are sitting on pins and needles. LOL. I am sure some of the eggs will hatch in a day or two. Please post picture of those adorable babies when you have them.

Baby chick wants to play so bad!

One more egg to go. I so badly want to catch a glimpse of which one hasn't hatched so I know the breed! One egg was EE and other was EE dad with speckled sussex mom.

Lot of peeping now. She got off but when getting back on, she was pretty rough. Could she have busted it open? I heard a lot of peeping as she settled down. Hard to see anything though as it is dark in there

Don't worry about it, she will take care of everything. Check tomorrow morning and you will find your new fuzzy butts. Congrats!

Question about broody hens... I have a young hen that just started sitting and I want to give her the eggs I have in my incubator that are due to hatch in less than a week. Do you think there will be a problem with her if her eggs start hatching when she's only been sitting for a few days? I've never tried switching out the eggs so late.

Yep, just let momma do her thing. Hens have been raising chicks for thousands of years. Trust her and you'll have at least one chick waiting or you in the morning
