Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Morning: there is a pip!

Yeah! But a word of caution. Handling pipping eggs can result in DIS. Mine should be hatching soon-today or tonight. Last candling showed all four eggs as alive. Good luck to you AND good luck to me too.

When do chicks start moving in the egg ?

Its day 7 right because my chicks started at day 5

Although they we're at a high temperature could that be why?

Will they hatch early?

I have not seen your earlier post so I am not sure what is going on. Slightly higher temperatures can cause an early hatch.

Today is Thursday and one of the eggs is cheeping!!!! (11:40 pm) I think there will be a chick in the morning

I hope your hatch is going well. I have two so far.

And now all four have hatched; I sure hope they will be frizzle like the mother.

@fisherlady , those are such cute pix! I spy on my broody hen and chicks with a Nest cam - yup, Nest is the cam from Google. How convenient is that??? I get see the chicks scrambling about and popping their heads out from everywhere! She has become a playground.

Thank you, we are lucky enough to have frequent models and lots of opportunity for snaps....we enjoy the coop cams, it is really eye opening to watch the interactions of the flock when humans aren't around. The rules of the pecking order are fascinating.

Sad news, our hen left the nest way too long yesterday, decided to go back last night. Was on most of the day today but tonight she left for good. The eggs were fertile and developing but I think they died while she was off yesterday and once she realized they were dead she left the nest.

@snlconner so sorry to hear this. Hopefully it will work out next time. Seems like either incubated or Broody, sometimes you just can't win.
