Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Last night I candled eggs to see if there were any bad ones (there weren't) and one of the eggs has two chicks in it! I can see two black blobs moving around in the egg, it hatches the 31.
So exciting!

Here is a video of the twins being candled

Wow! That is amazing! I hope the hatch goes well!

I have a blue Wyandot that has been broody for a few weeks now and is always sitting on a clutch of eggs. Normally I just move her out of the way to collect, which she doesn't like. Four days ago I decided to let her sit on a clutch. The first day she had 5, the next day she had 10 eggs. Her egg count has stayed at 10 for the last few days. I've contemplated moving her out to the brooder, as it is clean and just waiting for the new chicks I get from Runnings in May. Or I could move her to the storage room that is part of the main coop. I'd just have to clear out a corner and make a nest box. Any thoughts?
I reposted what someone else advised me a day or two ago above. Excellent advice on moving a broody.

Quote: Your setup looks awesome! Best of luck on the hatch. I love when you hear little peeps under Mama, and she has that contented look on her face. Just darling!

I have often gotten double yolkers, and have wanted to hatch one, but the thought makes me a little nervous. Good luck with it! I hope they both make it!
I'm new to this thread and just came here to share, but my first broody is a little Isbar pullet and I have moved her to one of our brooding pens. There were too many scuffles when the other hens would come in to lay. Being little, she would get pushed out of the nest box and then she would settle in another box. I decided it would be a far less stressful experience for her if she had her own space. I have 3 brooder pens, though, so it doesn't tie up space that I need. I plan to keep her there for the first week or two after her chicks hatch and then will let them back in with the flock. I have tubs in each box for easy cleanup, but it sure made it easy to just transfer chicken and eggs to a secluded brooder! Started with 7 eggs...one was infertile and she cracked one, so 5 are due tomorrow-ish! So excited!
I love the tote idea!

So it's day 21 for my broody hen.
I just checked on her eggs whilst she took a break to eat and poop.
None of the eggs had pipped but i could hear peeping from one of them. So i candled it and there was a chick which had internally pipped. Then i candled another and that had also pipped internally. Whislt most others had no pips but could see the chick moving.
I have 21 eggs under her.
Hoping for some chick tomorow!

So exciting!!! I will be waiting for pictures as soon as possible. :-D Day 18 just started for my broody, so I still have a few days before I find out if the chicks made it or not.

I don't think this one was a double yolker because it wasn't big at all, I think the egg split after it was fertilized to make identical twins

Eeeek! Day 21 and went out to open up the coop and lifted up Mamacita to find this! My kids already named them Tickle and Tinker. Don't know if the other 3 will hatch, but I'm gonna have a really hard time staying away! So excited...

An updated pic of our new additions! The marans egg in the picture I posted earlier has pipped and I can hear the cheeping from inside. We shall see! Mamacita is a very good momma so far and has been fiercely protective.

Oh my goodness! So exciting and so cute!!
Yes! I think a double yolker would have a better chance of surviving though because there is more room to grow
My thoughts exactly. I am hoping for the best possible outcome for you!
