Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Just read thru the entire thread. Loved the pics, thanks for lettiing me snoop. No broodies yet, but I know where I will come when I do.

Last night when I candled the eggs I made a small hole in the air sac end of 2 eggs ,they had both pipped the air sac for over 24 hours,I left them under the hen until this morning and I then made the hole bigger nearly half way down the egg.They are both peeping at me but the membrane was very dry so I wet it with some water ,I will wait a few more hours before I do any more,

This morning I quickly peeked and there is one tiny black and white chick I could see

. How long does it take for the rest of the viable eggs to hatch? It is very chilly here today and I didn't want to disturb Patsy or change the heat and humidity under her.

If they were all set at the same time with 24 hrs. they should be out. Congrats to all the broodys and hatchlings. hope everything goes good for your hatch of calls, sandra. keep us posted. Congrats Whimsy on the first peep. and misskittydjs, way to go looking forward to pics of extended family...

stony, looking forward to hearing how many chicks you get. and 2 weeks old and already flying into tress wow. and WonderChicken, so sorry about your hen, they are so strange during their broodiness, who can tell whats going on in that little pea brain of theirs, just hope next time all goes great for you and the hen..

my Muscovy is on day 3 so only 31 more days to go..

thats how I will look after this is all over. my little hen Sandy is again on day 4. for the second time. keep posting on up to the minute details..

another chick for Miss Iris!! she now has 3 fuzzy butts under her (another one hatched but died

) She still has some eggs under her and 2 look like they might be hatching. She doesn't really like to be messed with at this time so I try not to bother her too much. Wish I could get some pics though! May try a bit later!!

It is funny though so far she has a black silkie, a barnyard mix, and the new one I think is a black sex link...possibly a roo. It is all black and the top of its head is black. I have RIR hens and dominque/mix rooster I wouldn't put money on it being a roo though
