Hi guys
I have a first time broody that started sitting on eggs on the fifteenth of April. There were six eggs there. When we (finally) got her to come off the nest (I think I lost some skin on that move) she had eleven eggs under her! So, when she came off nest during the day, others were laying eggs in her nest. She was nesting in a half full bag of pine shavings. So, we build a brooder coop for her and put her in there. On Monday of this week, I got home from work and she was not on her eggs. They were cold to the touch. I found her and put her back on the nest. Im not sure how long she was off, and she pecks the crap out of me if I go near her. She has been there ever since and yesterday would have been day 21 from the Apr. 15th date.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Relax and give her time? It may be fine anyways. Buffy did that when I tried to move her and right now we've got 5 peeps. Don't give up hope.

Thanks so much for that website! I am constantly learning something on this forum!!! Who would've thought there would be so many things that can go wrong with a chicken?

I agree with everyone else Poonchie's Mom, I think all of us had that happen and the eggs still hatched so maybe give her a couple more days, or candle them and see if there is any movement.

Buffy's up to 6 and counting! I know for sure it's 6 cuz I finally got her moved out of the nesting box and into a dog cage I've used in the past as a brooder. I picked up 3 of the babies and put them in the new nest, then moved Buffy, uncovering 3 more peeps, who I moved over. Then I moved the remaining eggs over. Hope some of them still hatch.

At least I was able to clean out the nesting box (broody poop is as bad as I was warned).

So now, everyone's tucked in the brooder cage, with chick starter and water. And a little more space to explore. Whee.

ETA: Make that SEVEN!
