Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I had promised them to a friend of mine because I was afraid of them being in the coop with the older girls and I have nine 3 week olds in a brooder on my kitchen table now. I can try keeping them in the coop if they will be ok but then at what age can they go to their new home?

PS....I will also have a brooder ready in case there is any problems since there are 2 mothers for the same 4 eggs. I tried separating them twice and they would not sit on the eggs so I gave up. I tried putting 2 eggs with each one and they still both climbed in one nest and left the two eggs alone in the other.

this year I haven't had mamas sharing nest but last year I did, and they did fine shared in raising them and never fought over them at all. you can take them anytime from mamas, but if your friend isn't in any hurry to get them Maybe let mamas have them till they start to feather good 3 to 4 weeks old, that way mama has had a chance to teach them and cuddly them. I really don't think you'll have any problems out of the other chickens, they pretty much respect mamas and their chicks. hey how are your other chicks doing?

I heard egg shell crunching this morning under broody #1.....broody #2 probably has another 1.5 weeks...broody #3 just got eggs yesterday. Broodies #4 and #5 are going to be taken away from their chicks this weekend. I'm running out of brooders, hope nobody goes until this next batch is done!
