Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Anybody else having problems with mama scratching bedding into the water and knocking over the feeder? How do you prevent it? And yes...they are up off the bedding.

It is my belief that mama knocks over the food on purpose. I have watched my Sumatra mama's do this. Then they show the babies how to scratch.

The only solution I have found is a bigger feeder and waterer, and have them away from the bedding. Otherwise mama just makes a mess.

with everyone of my mamas they have done it. came home just a while ago mama had all the babies up an about in the little coop scratching out the bedding into the waterers and food container. I am hoping she'll just bring them on out now.

Why can't our animals tell us what is wrong and where it hurts? It would make our lives and that of our vets so much easier!
