Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Quote:
Don't think so sounds more like they were rotten. you can probably google chicken embryo and get pictures at different stages of development. Didn't you say they were past hatch day? If so they would have showed chicks in stages of development I would think. Sorry,

Tom is approximately 9 months old.I hate it that he waits for the hens permission to work on her while the rooster literally r***s the chickens.

I know but he rarely does it I mean I have only seen him doing it 2 times. The funny thing is HE IS PRACTISING

When he finds like a rock or something he stimulates it with a hen and he tries to find his balance and he is doing the exact same thing as if he was on the hen.Its hilarious.

Off I go reading....

I know whats wrong! The temperature the last two weeks. The weather was crap and it was raining all day plus it was windy. That could be a problem or another problem could be because well the tom tried to "fertilize" the broody hen when the poor girl couldnt get up and shoo him because she had the eggs so i sprayed water all over him and he was gone after that.Maybe the eggs got wet?Or maybe i had them to long outside(probably more than 10 days)before putting them under the broody?
I honestly dont know!

Now I am waiting for 2nd of June. There are some turkey eggs in the incubator.I think this is a good egg batch because I saw the tom on her a week ago before we collect the eggs.

I've got a broody with 9 chicks and have an outbreak of something going on in my flock. Two hens have been isolated and mama and chicks have been moved inside...but they were in the coop with the sick hens already. Is it safe to give antibiotic to chicks?
