Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I have one that should have had a hatch today. Then a second one that still has 2 weeks. They switched! I switched them back and they switched again.

I also had one of my missing Game hens show up a couple of hours ago with a family behind her. Mixed with FBCM. Still haven't seen them all at once to count them though.

OK, I actually gave her 8 eggs tonight in a dog kennel NEXT TO the hen house. My broody panicked when I moved her and paced next to the regular coop for awhile before giving up to "nest" for the night. The thing is an hour later I came out to see she had kicked 3 eggs out of the nest, maybe would've done more. I put them back in there and she left mad. Finally went back in. Now it's too dark to check.

Is this normal? Should I let he kick some out or stick them all under repeatedly? I just don't want to break her and she seems upset about the new quarters too. Any advice from those who've been there? She's a first time broody.
Thanks

I have 2 broodies sitting in one nest in the heat and both panting and I misted them with a spray bottle. There is also a fan in the coop but it is not directly on them. They are free to leave the nest anytime they want to but unless I pick them up and put them outside, they don't move. I remove any eggs but it doesn't make any difference to them whether there are eggs or not. I also like to give them a little wedge of cold watermelon to hydrate and cool them. Those girls are stubborn!!!

This isn't uncommon for chickens, they will sit through it fine, just keep on doing what your doing, making sure they stay hydrated, The less we mess with them they better off they will be.

for all of you that have been following about my lil chick that hatched last Sunday, it passed away this morning, It put up the bravest fight, my grandkids named it Joy and we had another funeral. The little duckling that mama didn't want is doing great, we all have fallen in love with {Her}

sorry to hear about your chick Lydia.

Well I have 2 broody Sumatra's in safe spots. This makes 7 out of 10 hens going broody since march.

My silkie broody and my part time BO broody. We're on day 17, I think they went into lockdown since my BO has actually been on the nest all day for once.

Snowball (silkie) is waiting for Ruby(BO) to move just a lil, so she can steal an egg. Keep finding like 8-9 under her and 2-3 under Ruby.
