Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

They are still infants...even though you wouldn't know it from looking at the MONSTERS! But they aren't supposed to. My friend (who gave me the Pekin eggs I incubated) said he tried and tried and his wouldn't. I'm not expecting them too. But if they did, it wouldn't hurt my feeling, or surprise me any......

How many boys and girls do you have? I have read some have Pekins that go broody and others don't. Maybe yours will be some of the ones that do

We have 2 that are for sure quackers. I'm afraid our flock is lopsided with 6 boys and 2 girls. Unless the one who sounds niether like a boy or girl turns out to be a girl

The oldest are only 16 weeks old, so the sex feathers aren't really clear, but most of the voices are clear.

I would say that means getting more Pekins....but I really want to get 6 Indian Runners either soon...or wait till next spring.

Yes I'd love a broody Pekin.

Miss Lydia... I have restraint (just not much).. I set the timer for 2 hours and am not allowing myself to go out more often than that... And if my wireless was working I would be dragging the table, chair and umbrella out there along with the lap top and a cooler of diet coke and be parked on my posterior for the afternoon. LOL I am going to have to call the tech Monday so I can do that for the next batch... they are due to hatch on Friday/Saturday

I really like Runners, had a chance to get a couple this spring, but have decided to wait till some of my older Muscovies go on to ducky heaven.

My dh won't eat a duck egg unless baked in something, We give away most of our duck eggs.

ok new at this .... very new .
Violet is my lovely Blue Cochin (as sweet as any chicken could possibly be) upon becoming
broody for the third time in a year I decided to purchase cochin eggs on ebay. We received
16 and I felt that was too many for her to cover and after combing through the forums for hours
that first night I made the executive decision to remove any eggs that she was not covering
the following morning. So we are here day 18 with 10 eggs....I have not candled because I
have no idea what the heck I would be looking for. Soooooooo I guess in a few days we will
know what we shall have. Keep all fingers crossed
