I've seen mine be pretty rough also, I wouldn't intervene unless you see some blood and I mean a small amt. then get the chick away. But they do seem to be pretty rough. Congrats and keep us posted.

Thanks Miss Lydia,

Are you saying any amount of blood and evacuate the chick? Because the chick does have one foot that seems bloody and there was some trace of blood at the base of the chick's beak. I had been attributing this to the hatching process.

Dan

could be from hatching, I've seen blood from that as well. What I mean is if you see the hen drawing blood. you'll have to keep a close eye but probably all is well. if 1 hatched yesterday when are the rest due to hatch?

I have an update as well, went out to stirup the bedding and found my broody miss lydia with 2 new chicks. I had her to hatch on Monday but they came early. They are so tiny [bantam] she is full American game hen. She started me down this road of love with chickens.

. So now I have no broodys and hopefully none will go broody any more but I know that is wishful thinking half haven't gone broody yet.

I wish you luck with the broodiness!! I'm not having much. I still have 4 broodies all crammed into one nest. I took out shavings and put in nest pads hoping they would not like them and they don't but they are still persistant. I remove any eggs and the other chickens are having a difficult time finding a place to lay because these girls are in the favorite nest. It has been about 5 or 6 weeks now and they won't givie it up. I take them out a couple of times a day for an airing and then they go right back . They are also picking on one anothers heads as I noticed some feathers missing. My broodies are 1 silkie, 1 frizzle cochine banty, 1 sl Cochin banty and one EE banty. I could have hatched chicks all summer so far! Wish I could but I do not have room for all the chickens. The Silkie was the best of the broodies.
Congrats on the 2 new babies. I could not believe how small the banty babies are. Too cute!

Day #21 and I have a chick!!!

Here I am back again.....I have a broody Partridge Rock!!! Never thought about her going broody either! My Dark Cornish that went broody was killed by a racoon the second night she was in the corner coop. Now the corner coop is predator proof for sure and the juvies are in there. So I have made a small run and big dog box broody ready. Also predator proof.

Tonight we go out and do the move to the broody hen. I am such a 'chicken' that I have sectioned off the coop so I will be able to go in and get the hen after dark without having to worry about the rooster or the other chickens....or the broody getting away. My SIL and I have a plan and we think it is going to work!!!

Wish me luck! The other hens are not so nice and the nest box is so high up that I want the hen in her own place. The hen and babies will be moved to the corner coop where everyone can see them until the day it is time to put the hen back with the mob....and leave the babies time to grow up and get thier size.

Best I can do.....lol.....I am loving seeing all your hens with their babies!!!

I have a cochin bantam that has gone broody she layed 4 eggs then went broody I had already taken her eggs and she sat with nothing under her for 4 days. I put an EE egg and a RIR large fowl egg under her and she seems ok with it she is due to have chicks 1 July. After the chicks hatch ( praying) will she wait to go broody again till next spring? and do the chicks need to be separated with her or separate from her and the flock? I was going to give her away but now that shee is my only Broody i think she gets to stay!!! seems to stay on the nest all the time may be a good Momma!!!!!
