my silkie pecked me so hard this morning i bled a little she is setting 7 eggs i woke up this morning and thought all was lost she was off her nest i felt the eggs and they were still hot she drank a quart of water ate all the food in the coop took a long dust bath then back to her nest im so happy 13 days to go

well broody # 7 I reported on the last 2 days has hatched all 3 of her remaining eggs. So she has 3 BEAUTIFUL Black Sumatra chicks. Yup, they all are blacks! No Blues (other than the dead one a few days ago) from this hatch......

Broody # 6 won't let me see what she has........

Will a broody mom puff up and talk a lot when she hears a baby under her? Is that normal?

my thought has always been they are telling the baby to keep quiet, as potential danger is nearby

Day 5 and I just candled the 12 eggs under Red. 4/5 EE eggs looked great! I could see the veining and dark spot! The dud was an elongated egg that I'd candled before I gave it to her to be sure it wasn't a double yolker. There was a definite blood ring in it.

I'm at a loss with the 7 Black Copper Marans eggs. One of them appears to have a more porous shell which I've read doesn't bode well. I think I saw a dark spot in another. And I couldn't tell a thing about the other 5. I guess we just wait, sniff, and pray.
