Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Rachel'sFlock :

Just went out to gather eggs. As I left the house I promised I would not "stare at the broody", and come right back.
When I got there, I was greeted by the most adorable, tiny, yellow-and-black person standing in front of her Mum, and entirely out from under her.
I couldn't help but stare!!!!
There was also a heck of a lot of peepus ruckus coming from beneath her...a lot of noise for 2, but I didn't meddle!
I thought I was going to cry!
Hi New Friend! This is clearly yesterday's 10am hatch.
Pics, obviously, forthcoming.

It really IS so exciting when we get that first glimpse!! Congratulations!!

I am actually starting to think it isn't actually broody mama that decides when we get to see them but the chicks themselves. My poor moulting red sex link broody mama is COMPLETELY controlled by the chicks even now at 5 weeks. They bark - she jumps.

and now we wait - for pictures

A Homegrown Fuzzy Butt!!!!!

My hubs heard the tone of my voice, grabbed the camera and fled for the coop.
He came back with pics and vids of the new member of the flock!

He also gave Mamma some feed in his hand, and AliceAnn went for it in a big way. Meanwhile, NewPerson jumped into his hand and received instruction as to how to feed. She was hungry!
He got the whole thing on video...
She made a whole new noise when eating and clearly instructing the chick.

I am soooo happy! Can't wait to see the rest of the tribe, but, now, pfft, I am good to go! I can finally see somebody!

It really IS the coolest thing, isn't it???

I'm so happy for you (and feeling sorry for myself at the same time because I KNOW I can't have any more broodies until next spring .... sigh)

In the meantime, I will live vicariously!!!! Thank you for sharing!
