They don't look much like babies anymore!! They will be 7 weeks old on Friday. When I went in to check on them last night, broody mama still had the two biggest of the 3 under her. I honestly don't know how she does it. I was away for a few days and barely recognized them when I got home, they had grown so much!! I plan to bring the camera for night check tonight ....

PS. The frizzle still looks like an angel

Just one an adoptee about the same age as the ones I have. I dont want to get more till I Have coop construction actually past the planning stage. For those who dont know I started out mid summer with 41 keets. By the time the predators got done with me and them I was down to six and one had had her leg removed..... Miss Peggy now... LOL. She survived and is happily out with her brothers and sisters. None are old enough to lay eggs yet. This next spring I hope to have a cochin or two or may be even get some East coast Sumatra eggs.... Hint Hint.... for broodies. I soo love Sumatras If I cant have any Chickens but one breed I would have them.

Boy Perchie, I hope some people can take a hint...I can't--that is why I keep asking MissL the same question over and over...
I did let her out into the run, but even with a wing clipped she hopped the 4' fence and was out and about.

Sumatra population here will happen. LOL.... i can be very determined.

Did you clip one wing or two? When I worked in a Big pet store I was taught to trim both wings. This allows the bird to motor down from a high place and to land evenly. Plus it allows them to get away from predators better. Weather or not you clipped the wings.... your fence is too low. If you cant or are not allowed you can put up an extension using PVC and chicken wire. Use a 45 degree connector to make the chicken wire lean in. This is what they do at zoos. It is very difficult to judge the distance to get over the top of the wire. Plus dont put horizontal support between the posts either. That horizontal post will give them the visual edge they need.

Often times people think Guineas are too stupid to fly over the top of a wire fience. I just think they are too single minded in combination with not being able to judge how high to jump up to get over. Many guinea keepers will have at least one leg of the run with a landing board on it. And believe me Guineas can fly and hit it from a very long distance away.

ok - so here they are - 7 weeks old tomorrow - still very much a family

The Bantam White Rock Frizzle (my tiny angel) - Hannah

The whole family - for a size perspective (I've never seen one feather out as ugly as my little black one

)

Bedtime ....

And the cuteness continues. Hannah is poking out both ends. (I don't know how Broody Mama still covers the black one (Oliver). He ain't small .... )

Serious Broody Mama (Liz) - looking fine sporting her new feathers. Olive is all grown up now. Doesn't need to be under mom anymore.

It was a tough day out foraging. Hannah is done in.

I can't believe Broody Mama still sits on Oliver. As you can see, he really isn't small anymore ...
