the craziness seems to start in February here. As soon as the girls start laying after their monthish off, the boys start in.... then, LET THE BROODY'S BEGIN!

Thank goodness it usually March before it gets crazy here. I am going to be getti ng some Lavender Muscovy eggs from a friend on BYC so hopefully one of my girls will be up for brooding

if one of my pekins go broody (my friend had a Pekin that did) I'll get some Indian Runner eggs from a guy across the border in Vermont. I want Runners!

So happy to hear good news and see new pics!

I'm also hoping for a broody duck or 4! Or at least to be able to find some duck eggs for a broody chicken. Also glad to hear you rave about the home grown chicken. I will need to butcher some roos in spring (I'm waiting to see if they all survive this winter...this is my first year, so I really don't know what to expect).

I still haven't figured out the sex of my silkies, but White Fuffyball was sitting on two chicks last night that hadn't jumped up to the nestbox with thier mom! I am really hoping that is a good sign!

I curretnly have 7 call duck eggs under a broody silkie...due to hatch around Dec 3 or 4th...if the eggs are good. My friend had bought the eggs at an auction for $1.00 and she didn't have a broody hen nor did she want to start her incubator up for 7 eggs.

Congrats on all the new babies. I candled broody #9's eggs and out of 4 only 1 fertile and growing. My polish rooster needs to be fired, those were the 3 eggs that were clear. I had given her 3 pure polish and she had 1 of her own. The lonely egg is a bantam wyandotte. It should hatch in about 1 1/2 weeks.

Broody Pebbles and her duckling went back to the coop, and broody Betty is back in the coop also. Her babies are in the brooder under heat. Then I have 20 7 week monsters in the big brooder in the basement. I took away their heat lamp and boy were they mad, even though they were not cold. Just spoiled.

I never thought I would say this, but, please no more broodies until spring! 9 was enough!

can i ask you why you took Bettyas chicks from her? sorry you only have 1 egg growing but one is better than none.

I like Runners too they are adorable.
